The handgrabbing season (YES, there is an actual legal "season") in Mississippi runs from May 1 to July 15. This time corresponds to the mating season of the the fish, as they use the boxes we place in the river to lay eggs in. We generally try to put the boxes out in the river in early to mid May. We give the fish time to find the boxes and then begin checking them periodically during the season, hoping to find one (or more) at home. All the boxes are made by our Vice President/Master Box Builder Brad Baugh. For more information on how to construct a box, see Box Building 101.
Be sure and read the trip updates below and check out the photo album and video clips pages for new media postings.

We will report a Trip-by-Trip update here each time.

2008:
UPDATE: The river just did NOT cooperate this year. The guys made that one trip over and that was IT for the season. Lesson learned.
Bummer, for sure.................we were disappointed, but there is always next year!
June 2008: The 2008 season is off to a VERY slow start this year due to the level of the river and the fact that we left our boxes in the river last year at a MUCH lower level. A few board members went yesterday to see how many boxes could be located and fished. The write up is attached. More to come, hopefully, for the remaining few weeks of the season.

The 2007 season has begun! We actually got started a little earlier this year. The dredging of the river has been completed, the weather and our schedules cooperated and we were able to have most of the boxes in the river and marked on the new official TCPC GPS before the end of April. For the first time in TCPC history, boxes were checked on the first day of the handgrabbing season! We are all very excited about this and are looking forward to another fun and successful fishing season.
